The From Violence to Caring study programme is one-of-a-kind study programme offering students the possibility to take part in multidisciplinary discussions in an international context. The programme is suitable for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral students in various fields. The purpose of the programme is to increase competence in organisations and to provide new insight for interdisciplinary research around the themes of violence and non-violence. The programme aims to increase awareness on genderd and sexualised violence and to provide measures in recognising various forms of violence, to help the victims of violence, and to prevent violence in various environments. The programme was developed and piloted in 2007-08 in international collaboration in a EU Daphne funded project “APROPOS”.
The Study programme consists of five consecutive web courses available as separate courses (5 ECTS) or as minor studies (25 ECTS). The duration of the programme (25 ECTS) is one academic year from September to early June.
The courses are taught and studied in English which requires all the participants to have sufficient skills in English. The studying takes place in Discendum Optima e-learning environment. All of the courses include individual work and group work guided by course tutors. To pass the courses, students are required to actively participate in the group activities and to complete a study journal for each course.
The programme is available for participants from the partner institutions of the University of Oulu (e.g. through the Erasmus programme) and through the HILMA network for the students of Women’s and Gender Studies in Finnish Universities.

ENROLLMENT FOR 2010-2011
The programme will be implemented in 2010-2011. Enrollment will close on April 30, 2010. Approximately 30 students will be chosen based on their applications to participate in the programme. Students are recommended to take the whole programme and students applying for the whole programme will be prioritized when making selections.
