Course description: Introduction to Finnish Gender Studies is divided into seven themes: nationality, normativity, emotions, home and domesticity, consumption and gender, sex and public space, and intersectionality, through which the students will gain an insight into Finnish society, Finnish research on gender and gendered power, normativity, and intersectionality in Finnish context. For each theme the students will read academic texts and other material available in the internet and discuss them in groups in the Moodle learning environment.

Organizers and teachers: The course is organized by the Universities of Helsinki and Jyväskylä, and Hilma Network of Gender Studies. The teachers of the course are Ph.D. Tuija Saresma and Ph.D. Annamari Vänskä.

Target group: The course is aimed at the exchange students of
gender studies in Universities of Helsinki, Eastern Finland,
Jyväskylä, Lappi, Oulu,Turku, Tampere and Åbo
Akademi. During the course, the students will learn
some important themes of Women’s and Gender
Studies with a specific Finnish perspective.
